Begliktash is an ancient megalithic sanctuary located about 5 km northeast of Primorsko, in the foothills of the Strandzha Mountains, near Maslen Nos. Considered the Bulgarian Stonehenge, this site is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Southeastern Bulgaria in recent decades.
The sanctuary consists of an ensemble of massive syenite blocks arranged in a specific configuration, used by the ancient Thracians for religious rituals and astronomical observations. It is believed to have functioned from the 14th century BC to the 5th century AD.
One of the highlights of the complex is the so-called “Priest’s Throne” – a rock shaped like a seat, where the high priest likely sat during rituals. Additionally, the sanctuary features a naturally formed “labyrinth,” the passage through which symbolizes the path to enlightenment.
For visitors, there are marked trails and informational signs that make exploring the site easier. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to fully experience the atmosphere of this mystical place.
Begliktash is not just an archaeological site; it is a place where history, nature, and mysticism merge, offering visitors a unique experience and a connection to antiquity.
